Greater Dinajpurt Association UK (GDAUK) aims to build up a strong & cohesive platform for our community people from 3 Greater Dinajpur districts (Dinajpur, Thakurgaon and Panchagarh) in the UK.
INTRODUCTION OF US
In the late eighties and early nineties, fewer than half a dozen Dinajpuri people, who accidentally met in North London, discussed the possibility of starting a small association for Greater Dinajpuri people (from Dinajpur, Panchagarh, and Thakurgaon) in the United Kingdom over a cup of tea.
We were lonely and culturally isolated and many of us seriously considered the need for a community association in the UK.
Originally, the idea was to hold gatherings every couple of months, celebrate Ramadan Iftar parties, and organize social outings, etc.Later, in the mid-nineties, we considered engaging in useful charity work such as blanket distributions, fundraising for hospitals, etc. For example, we made donations to:
Dinajpur Diabetic Hospital, Thakurgaon Diabetic Hospital, Aurobinda Shishu Hospital, Gausul Azam Eye Hospital.
We also held Chokkhu Shibirs at two centers: one in Raniganj, Panchagarh, and two in Dinajpur (Gausul Azam Eye Hospital and Hakimpur Siddiquia Madrasha).

The process we follow
Reunion
Eid Reunion: To engage our community, we organize an Eid Reunion. It is a joyous and festive occasion enjoyed by members, children, guests, and dignitaries.
Annual Picnic: We organize an annual picnic on the first Saturday of July each year. The purpose of this picnic is to build a strong and cohesive platform for our community members from the three GDA districts.
Donation Programme for Orphans
At present we are conducting a Donation Programme for the orphans.
As part of the programme, we are distributing sleeping mats, trunks and freezers to three orphanages.
Blankets Distribution
In emergencies, GDAUK organizes fundraising efforts and responds to calls for assistance from underprivileged individuals in the member districts (Dinajpur, Thakurgaon, and Panchagarh).
During our last blanket distribution project, we successfully raised approximately £2,400 for this cause, and around 1,250 blankets were distributed.
Eye Cataract Operation
In 2023, a successful Eye Camp was held for cataract treatment and operations for 430 underprivileged individuals from a deprived area of Birampur Upazila (village Ayra, union Binail) in the district of Dinajpur.
Emergency Appeal Response
On 13th October 2024, we raised BDT 2,32,235 to support the following individuals:
Junesh Aurou (Cancer patient)
Ashrafun Nahar (Cancer patient)
Momtaz Begum (Cancer patient)
Ziash Karmaker (Cardiac patient)
Helping Baby Maisha
Baby Maisha is from Dinajpur.
She was suffering from bone marrow cancer at the age of 4.
GDAUK came forward, and with your generous donations, we managed to raise BDT 1,69,470. According to the doctor, Baby Maisha is now out of danger and leading a healthy life.
